One of my favorite comedians of all time died of complications from a stroke this morning. Patrice Oneal was one of the funniest and greatest comedians of all time. He was hilarious, and never said anything except what he believed deeply. He was honest to a fault. He was a genius on relationships, between men and women, black and white, and just humans in general. Even when I disagreed with him on the point he was making, which was often, he always made me see his side of the issue and made it interesting, insightful, and hilarious. I’m genuinely sad that he’s gone because I don’t know if a perspective like his exists in the world. He was one of a kind, an inspiration to me, and I will miss him, though I’d never met him.
Everyone owes it to themselves to watch his hour-long Comedy Central special Elephant in the Room. It’s on Netflix Watch Instantly and I don’t know if I’ve ever laughed harder sitting alone in my room than I did when I was watching it.
Here are some of my favorite Patrice moments.
